Who has the right to tell a story?

We are keeping an eye on Realness, the screenwriting lab for writers of African descent. Will this mean an end to the fleet of African Americans,  playing notable Africans with questionable accents from Idi Amin to Mandela. Most of these screenplays whilst good works of art, tend to be penned by people, who have never lived in the continent other than a short ‘research’ trip. We hope so.

Mentored by script consultant Selina Ukwuoma and the folks at Urucu Media, the projects will be presented to financiers at the Durban Film Mart which runs from the 13th to 17th June. Keep an eye out on the Realness website for the next call for entries. We shall be tracking the progress of the films.
