Welcome to God's Own Country
Edinburgh Film Festival has wrapped and this year, God’s Own Country by Francis Lee won the top prize. The film first premiered in Sundance and clearly it has the good ole film industry quality – ‘buzz!’ But will the industry feting translate to Box Office revenue and launch Francis Lee as a director whose name would no longer make you say who? Thousands of films premier at film festivals annually that never make it to the audiences. A major source of frustration for us at Cues.
The synopsis reads, Spring. Yorkshire. Young farmer Johnny Saxby numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker for lambing season ignites an intense relationship that sets Johnny on a new path. Do you want to see ‘Gods Own Country?’
